Whether you’re suffering from a cold or a flu virus, this cold and flu brew will help relieve symptoms.
But, remember, the best remedy is good old fashioned rest.
Plus, drinking plenty of warming fluids.
Sip this warming and spicy brew while resting.
Here’s the recipe for my favourite cold and flu brew.
Here’s what you need:
- 500 mls water
- 1 whole lemon, sliced
- 2 small slices of fresh ginger root
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 8 cloves
- 1 garlic clove, slightly flattened. Note – to get the best medicinal effect of garlic it’s best eaten raw so if you can tolerate raw garlic leave it out of the cooking stage and stir in after the brew has simmered
- 1 small red chilli (less or more depending on how hot the chilli is and how much you like chilli) or 1/4 teaspoon of chilli powder
- 1-2 tablespoons honey
Here’s what you do:
Place all of the ingredients except the honey in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Simmer for 10 minutes.
Cool slightly and then strain, keeping the liquid.
Then, stir the honey into the liquid to taste.
Sip throughout the day.
If you find the brew too strong (or spicy), simply add a little hot water to dilute it.
Tip – you can freeze the brew in small cup sized containers, or even in an ice cube tray, to have on hand through winter for a quick remedy to head off a head cold.
