Having trouble with memory & concentration?

What was that question again?

Don’t you wish that sometimes you could just plug your brain in and boost it’s power?

There’s nothing more frustrating than having words drop out of your brain when you’re talking, or forgetting your phone number, reading the same paragraph 5 times, or even that feeling that you’re living in fog.

Do you ever wish your mental focus and concentration could be better?

Living with brain fog is frustrating (to say the least) and scary (to say the most). Don’t panic, because there’s many reasons why we experience brain fog – it’s mostly not permanent.

Brain fog is not a medical condition, but it is a symptom that all is not well in your body. This commonly used phrase perfectly describes those times when your memory fails you, you feel confused, forgetful, or have no focus and nothing is clear.

So, what the heck is going on?

To regain your brain power, you need to find out what’s behind the fogginess.  Some of the more common reasons are:

  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Thyroid conditions
  • Adrenal Fatigue
  • Inflammation/Acidity
  • Low iron or B12
  • Lack of sleep
  • Blood sugar problems
  • Some medications
  • Lack of nutrients
  • Hormone issues

To get started, here’s 5 areas of your life to look at first to help bring your brain back into full function:

Sleep – getting enough good quality sleep is important for brain function, as well as improving energy and alertness.  Your body performs its repair, detoxification and rebuilding while asleep and your brain needs the down time as well.   Give it every chance – it’s like plugging yourself in to recharge at the end of the day.   Not sleeping? Eat well – your brain needs certain nutrients to work properly, to repair and to replenish. If you’re starving your brain of vitamins, minerals, proteins and good fats with a bad diet, or maybe you’re not digesting food well, you’ll always be struggling to concentrate and think clearly.

Unhealthy activities – you know that feeling the next morning when you’ve overindulged the night before?  Alcohol definitely affects your brain, both in the short term and sometimes permanently with long term use.  Enjoy alcohol in moderation.  Cigarettes also have a negative impact on your brain health.  If you’re a smoker, now’s a good time to quit.

Exercise – always an important part of living.  You don’t need to be an athlete, just consistently get out there and move.  I find walking most days makes me feel energised and clears my head.

Address your stress – even being in mild overwhelm can make you feel like you’re in brain overload.  Everything from overwhelm to severe chronic stress will impact on how you think, feel and go about your day.  Simple things like to-do-lists and routines can help to calm everyday overwhelm and keep you moving forward, but if you’re facing long term or high stress in your life, seeking help to create change and manage this is the first step in clearing your head.

We can work together to find out what’s behind your brain fog.
